Six Easy Steps to turn a White Board into a Chalkboard

Working at my parents pizzeria, we experimented with chalkboard paint for our menu board, &&& Loved IT!

With some of the leftover paint we decided to touch up our White Board that we use to jot down quick notes or recipes.

White Boards never seem to last long, whether it's old marker marks that won't wash off, or someone accidentally used  a permanent marker. Oopsie!

A little refurbishment with some chalkboard paint and it will be good as new. 

Six Easy Steps to Create a DIY Chalkboard

Supplies: Old White Board, Valspar Chalkboard Paint, Paintbrush, Masking Tape and Cloth

1. Clean and Wipe down White Board wig cloth. It will work best with a clean surface. 

2. Tape off the edges that you do not want to be painted. 

3. With the Paintbrush, dip jist a quarter of your brush in the paint and create brushstrokes in long one directional strokes. I used Valspar Black Chalkboard paint. It was around $10 for a quart and comes in a variety of other colors for an additional charge. Keep the strokes in the same direction to avoid streaks or irregular bumps. Cover the surface with paint. 

4. Let paint dry for 10-15 minutes. Apply approximately 3 coats. 

5. When surface is dry remove tape. 

6. You must cure the chalkboard. Take a piece of white chalk and color over the entire surface of the board. This will prevents future chalkboard marks to stay on board. Wipe off white chalk with cloth.

You now have converted a White Board into a Chalkboard- Enjoy! 

It can hold magnets too!
